The Benefits of Shipping Your Car to Illinois

Moving to Illinois for a job, school, or other life change? Congratulations: Illinois has long had one of the strongest business climates in the U.S., and the quality of living especially in urban centers like Chicago and Springfield cannot be beat. Its universities are top-notch, and Chicago boasts world-class architecture and influential banking and commodities markets.

What does this have to do with shipping your car to Illinois? Everything.

Because of Illinois' superb infrastructure and business climate, you can transport your car into the Land of Lincoln for competitive rates and always with the highest level of service.

Who would think that Illinois would literally be at the "crossroads of America"? But it's true - Illinois has five Interstate highways, six major railroads, and even modern seaports on the Great Lakes moving over 26 million tons of goods per year.

Illinois Titling and Registration Necessary

Illinois is different from other U.S. states in that much of its vehicle titling and registration is administered by the Illinois Secretary of State (www.cyberdriveillinois.com).

As can be expected in this bureaucracy-heavy state, there are few exceptions to Illinois' titling requirements, so you are advised to apply immediately upon establishing residence in the state.

Also be advised that most vehicles are subject to vehicle emissions (smog) testing. 1996 and newer vehicles powered by gasoline must be tested after they are four years old. However, a number of non-urban zip codes are exempt from testing, as well as a limited list of vehicle types. Consult the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (www.epa.state.il.us) for more information.

Car Insurance - Car Theft Issues

One downside of living in developed urban areas (comprising a majority of the State of Illinois) is that insurance rates run quite high. Unfortunately, you cannot escape this, as insurance is mandatory as a part of the vehicle registration process in Illinois as well as most states.

Car theft is also another fact of life in the State of Illinois, which ranks #8 among the fifty states in terms of vehicle theft (over 37,000 vehicles stolen). This is yet another good reason to make sure you keep a low deductible on your vehicle.

Auto Transport to Illinois: the Best Option

Many people moving to Illinois consider selling their automobiles back home, and then purchasing a new vehicle or renting in Illinois. Generally, this is not advisable, as this purchase would be coming at a time when you are experiencing your most severe "money crunch," due to moving and new housing costs. By keeping your present car, and simply transporting it into Illinois, you greatly reduce your in-state transportation costs. After your move is completed, you only need to complete the titling, registration, and driver's license process-and you're good to go!
